Are you a sculptor? Perhaps you just play around with clay in your living room, maybe you make your own trinkets and dream of bartering them in an underground market. Or do hope to bring fill galleries with living installations—despite Dad’s warnings of the economy? Either way, or somewhere in between, we saved a seat for you at SoFA!
SCULPTURE SALON RECIPE
Chow and Chat (15 min)
We eat on the SoFA. Because, you’re an artist, we know you can make art; but, you’re also a college student and nobody likes to make their own meals. Chow on some FREE homemade food while gazing around LeMoyne’s Gallery Art, and chat with fellow artists in your field about the impeccable taste.
Creative Circle (35 min)
Everyone is so over the Starving Artist, but no one wants to give us a slice of the pie. This Sculpture Salon is focused on how we can build our value as Artists, without switching majors. Your Salonniere, Hope Fell, will guide a collaborative exercise on taking scraps to sculpt a feast, literally. We will be using mixed media to create a small scale installation as groups work collectively to make various parts of a meal, from the flower centerpiece to the cutlery. Because if Artists aren’t offered a seat at the table, we must make our own– together.
Guest Artist: Kevin Curry (25 min)
Kevin Curry has been featured and solo exhibited across the nation as a professional sculpture artist. With his conceptual pieces routinely questioning material social issues, Curry has been awarded various public commissions and four artist residencies for his work and vision. He will be presenting on the relationships an artist has to their labor, and how value is defined, from his perspective as an experienced, working artist.
Q&A– The Guest Artist will then open the discussion to students curious about the life and practicality of a working sculptor artist.
Wonder Workshop (30 min)
As we will learn from the Guest Artist, value cannot be created in isolation. This peer workshop will be reviewed by our Visual Art Director and their Assistants, and will allow for students to discuss in-progress concepts, explore methods of impact, and receive necessary feedback that elevate their work.
